What is a permcath?

A permcath is a type of catheter that is placed into a large vein in the body for long-term use, typically for dialysis or chemotherapy. It is a permanent catheter, meaning that it can remain in place for several weeks or even months. Unlike other types of catheters, a permcath has two separate ports - one for inflow and one for outflow. It is typically placed in the jugular vein in the neck or the subclavian vein in the chest. Permcaths require careful maintenance and cleaning to prevent infection and other complications.
